Groucho was photographed with the painting for this November 9, 1975 Parade Magazine article. The caption to the photo states that "Of all his old vaudeville and movie memorabilia, this painting is closest to his heart."

The painting, along with Groucho's other memorabilia, became part of The Groucho Marx Collection. It was willed to the Smithsonian Institution following Groucho's death on August 19, 1977.

This painting of the Marx Brothers was done by Larry Felder in 1974 as a high school art project, and sent to Groucho Marx as a gift.
